Group Programs

We offer a variety of group programs. Programs vary in length and run at different times. This will be downloadable shortly so check back here to find out what groups programs and times are coming up.

 

 

Therapy Groups

 

Our therapy groups cover handwriting, fine motor development, preschool readiness, school readiness, social skills and therapeutic play group.

All groups come complete with homework activities and suggestions to assist children and families at home and at school. Programs can be run at our clinic or within the school and are tailored to meet individual and group needs.

 

 

1. Busy Bodies   (ages 0-4)

 

This playgroup involves the participation of the parent and child. It aims to enhance parents knowledge about their child’s development and provide strategies on ways to enhance and support children with disabilities or developmental delays. It facilitated by an allied health professional and includes educational topics on issues related to child development and play  followed with a supported playgroup environment.  It is a great opportunity to meet with other parents and learn from experienced professionals. The child does not need a diagnosis to attend Busy Bodies.

 

 

2. Talking Tigers   (Children in Kindy)

 

Talking Tigers is a 6-8 week program that assists children in kindergarten get a head start for pre-primary. It addresses a number of different skill areas needed in a class environment. These include:

 

· Fine motor skills e.g. pencil grip, finger strength and cutting

 

· Gross motor skills e.g. postural stability and coordination

 

· Prewriting shapes and self care skills e.g. buttons, zippers and laces.

 

· Language skills  including listening and responding to group instructions,  expressing ideas, requesting clarification from adults and peers

 

· Social use of language skills.

 

Children will be encouraged to negotiate with peers and share with peers their ideas, building on their self confidence.  Show and tell, music, craft activities as well as group games will be used to target these areas.

 

 

3. Leaping Lizards   (Children in Pre Primary)

 

The aim of this eight week group is to assist children prepare for school. It addresses fine motor skills (pencil grip and cutting), gross motor skills (balance and coordination), attention to tasks, visual skills, eye-hand coordination skills and handwriting skills (pre-writing symbols and names). It also focuses on language skills , such as pre literacy skills, reading comprehension, re telling stories and comprehension of instructions involving concepts.

 

 

4. Getting It Write From The Start   (ages 6 to 7)

 

This eight week group addresses foundational handwriting skills (postural control, dexterity, bilateral coordination, visual perception, fine motor skills), letter formation, letter memory and letter discrimination.

 

Note: Depending on the ability of individuals this group may need to be spilt over two eight week sessions with the first focusing on foundation skills and the second on lower case letters.

 

 

5. Learning The Write Way   (ages 8 to 10)

 

This group addresses the same foundational skills as ‘Getting it Write from the Start’ but places a greater emphasis on addressing specific difficulties with handwriting such as legibility, page stabilisation, spacing, letter formation, copying from board and speed.

 

 

6. Social Skills Group

 

This eight week group aims to assist children to feel confident about themselves and their interaction with peers. It teaches how to identify and express emotions, appropriate social behaviour and how to initiate play with friends a well as participate in group games. It is offered for children in Kindy, Pre Primary and Year 1.
