Occupational Therapy

What type of difficulties do Occupational Therapists assist with?

 

  · Fine motor: difficulty using two hands together, grasping, dexterity, small hand movement and

      coordination.

 

  · Handwriting: pencil grip, letter formation, legibility and pencil grip

 

  · Arm strength and coordination

 

  · Motor Planning and body awareness: ability to plan and organise their body to complete new   

      and familiar tasks.

 

  · Difficulties in self-care task: Dressing, bathing, feeding and toileting

 

  · Visual perception

 

  · Sensory processing: overly or under sensitive to touch, movement, pressure, noise and/or visual

      input

 

  · Play: delayed, inappropriate or absent

 

  · Poor attention and concentration

 

  · Functional preschool and school tasks: Cutting, gluing, organising themselves to complete

      tasks and listening to instructions.

  · Educates parent and other relevant persons on child’s difficulties and provides strategies to assist.

What is Occupational Therapy?

 

Occupational therapy aims to assists children who have difficulties completing functional tasks due to physical, neurological, sensory-motor, visual-perceptual and/or fine motor difficulties.

 

Occupational therapist work with the child and family to assist children to develop the necessary physical, sensory, cognitive and visual skills needed for school tasks, play and self-care (toileting, dressing, feeding and washing).
